Software Piracy in Malaysia

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone. For my Gamma 1 year, my first assignment is about conducting research that is related to statistical data available online. For the output it needs to be done in interactive way either by electronic or non-electronic way. In other words, I need to do a statistical data to represent an information.
What is statistical data ? From my understanding it is a data that is present by a diagram or figures to visualize about a particular information in a more interactive manner. For me this is more interesting and effective way to attract people's attention to the information we want to deliver.

For this time assignment I have chosen Software Piracy in Malaysia for my topic.

Artist Statement

For this assignment , I have decided to choose Software Piracy as my topic. In Software Piracy, I want to highlight that we need to be alert of important to support originality especially in software usage. This because , as student we deal a lot of things with many kinds of software and it is wrong if we used unlicensed software. In different perspective view, unlicensed software is more to ‘assistant’ and survivor for those who cannot afford to buy licenses software from the developer. It may cost a high price to own the licensed but for those who can afford it not become a big problem but what about for those who can’t afford especially students? Even though, the developer gives a student rate but it still expensive. If not the statistical data may show a different result because the most of software usage is 18-24 years old. Maybe from one side it is wrong but from the other side it may be right too. It depends on our choice to decide.
For the output I do two ways which are non-digital and digital. For non-digital here are two sides which are enveloped and another one is one container. The envelope represents licensed software. If we buy the original license from the developer, our personal information will be protected from others compare to the other side the piracy distributor will not keep safely our personal data and it can cause a lot of problems in future.
For digital output, I crate one application from flash and open processing where the audiences can interact with my application to know about the piracy. I also add a sound to ensure audiences will more interested during interact with my application

  Summary

Piracy is a common activity in Malaysia where it has been spreading for quite a sometime and  it is not something new especially to students nowadays. From various types of piracy I had chosen Software Piracy usage in Malaysia. Software piracy mostly occur due to money factor. As we know to buy a software license it costs quite some cash and most people especially students can't afford it. Moreover people tends to choose the piracy version on the internet because it is cheaper and most of the time it is free of charge. From my point of view piracy is good for newbie user as long as one's does not make any profit from it or publish it in public. Although there are many campaigns against piracy including in Malaysia in order to increase people's awareness about using only the licensed software, there must be an appropriate solution should be taken from the developer itself. Maybe, the cost to buy the license software should be reduced to a price that can be afforded by all level of users. If the developer still not consider the problem faces by all users I think this issue will not be solved.
